Hope its better than Dunkirk.
That movie was turrible.
shareI liked it, besides it was much better than anything I've seen from Hollywood since then.
shareI guess I didn't get it, but Interstellar was a cinematic masterpiece. So thats weird I didn't like it.
shareSorry Bubba, but Interstellar sucked donkey balls. And so did Douchekirk. Nolan is a mess. Only noteworthy film was Insomnia, probably cuz it was written by someone else.
shareInterstellar is one of the greatest films ever made, Dunkirk was a complete letdown. Don't get me wrong, it's very well made visually but there is absolutely nothing under the surface.
shareAgree on Douchekirk, disagree on IS
shareThat's the point. It's about transplanting you into an experience of the realities of a day of war, which is far removed from the glorified version we often get.
Not every movie needs a subtext.
That may have been the point but it was still poorly done. If you don't know anything about any of the people involved its pretty hard to give a shit. Dunkirk wasn't emotionally deep or anything, it was just an action fest plain and simple just like Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers. Definitely Nolan's worst film.
shareI saw it in IMAX and found it super immersive. I haven't seen it since so maybe it was just that environment that got me caught up in it (in a good way).
Having seen 1917 since this I'm even more sold on Dunkirk as a great war movie. 1917 was way too Hollywood with so many far fetched elements one after the other. Based on a true story but I can't believe it played out as illustrated.
Tenet seems like a real mystery at this stage.
1917 was infinitely better than Dunkirk, I have never left a movie theater so disappointed after I saw Dunkirk, also Dunkirk was beyond cliched so I don't know what you're talking about.
shareJumping off a bridge and then randomly washing up right where you need to be within 5 minutes of being too late. That was where my suspension of disbelief ran out.
shareIt didn’t happen instantaneously we are supposed to assume a lot of time went by based on how the scene is edited. Also I never said 1917 was great, I said it was better than Dunkirk which is was. The entire ending with Tom Hardy someone taking out the entire enemy when he’s out of fuel was equally implausible
shareThe last good film that Nolan made was Inception
Everything since then has been pretentious and messy. Always very pretty to look at due to his super IMAX cameras, but awkwardly, stiffly written. Some directors are better off when they let others write the film. Scorsese, Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Hitchcock
But the most egomaniacal of directors always want to write their own movies. Tarantino, Woody Allen (good director, but probably the most self-absorbed person alive) Paul Thomas Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, NOLAN...they always want writing credit. The lousier writers among them usually share writing credit w/ a co-writer
Nolan needs to stop writing his own movies. His characters are always emotionless and robotic. Nolan has never written a character that even comes close to the level of depth that was achieved w/ Heath Ledger's Joker, leading me to believe that either Goyer deserves most of the credit, or it was a total fluke, which I've always suspected
But what can we say about any character in Inception beyond Dom Cobb? They're all one-dimensional characters w/ zero personality
I don't even remember a single interesting, defining feature of any character in Interstellar. In fact, I don't even remember the names of any of the characters.
Dark Knight Rises. We don't know much about Bane other than he is evil and super strong and has a cool british robot voice. I don't even know what the point of the Robin character was, he was not given anything important to do. Catwoman, boring and bland take on the character, Talia Al Ghul totally forgettable
He and his brother are both shitty writers
Allow me to put more mud in the water and claim that Memento, Prestige, and Inception are his best. Interstellar and Insomnia are mediocre. TDKR and Dunkirk are his worst.
Overall he is impressive so I will watch anything he does. Looking forward to Tenet.
Nolan is one of my all time favorite directors...
for me my ratings are-
Inception-10/10
The Dark knight-10/10
The Prestige-9.5/10
Memento-9/10(Maybe his best overall movie)
^ All time Greats
The Dark Knight Rises-8.5/10(IMO has some big problems, but still Damn Good)
Batman Begins-8.5/10
Interstellar-8/10
Insomnia-8/10
Dunkirk-6/10(Maybe a good overall movie, but just nothing for me)
Tenet is one of my most anticipated films of 2020
Bill...just curious...what are the "big problems" you have with TDKR?
shareagain your obsessions with my opinions on movies is really getting creepy....
But for me, The ending did not work on any level....
I'm a life long comic reader and collector and The action of Batman and Bruce literally goes against The near century long history of the character...
I also wasnt a fan of Nolan basically having to add a "Trick" scene in to try and convince the audience Batman died....
and what I mean is, When Batman is towing the bomb out to sea....With Literally 4 seconds left on the clock, Nolan cuts to a scene that shows Batman still in the cockpit, There is truly no other reason to add this scene unless its to try and convince the audience "No really he's going to die, see Hes still there"...
ultimately we learn Batman survives, But by adding this scene, Its makes His Survival basically Impossible IMO, By adding the "Trick" scene, Nolan revealed Batman is still in the cockpit 4 second away from a Nuclear Explosion with a blast radius of 6 MILES
the movie poorly explains that Bruce fixed the auto pilot and thats how he survived....and that could have been a Perfect explanatio had Nolan not threw in the "Trick" scene showing Batman was still in the cockpit with 4 seconds....
Theres no way, Batman could have ejected and escaped the 6 Mile blast radius in 4 seconds...
as for my problem of the ending going against the history of the character..
Batman Retiring in the way he did in TDKR may be the worst thing I've ever seen any superhero do in any CBM ever...
You have Batman, Literally retiring and leaving Gotham immediately after and a terrorist attack that crippled his city and whats Astonishing Terrible is The Terrorist's were ONLY able to commit this act by USING Bruce/Batman's technology and armor, lol
and the ultimate example of the worst Possible JUDGEMENT, Batman decided to retire and leave the responsibiliy to his crippled city(which again was crippled by His Own Weapons turned against him) to a completely Unworthy and Unskilled successor that either would Be KILLED trying to be Batman on His 1st mission or Would need to take at least a decade to obtain the Skills required to Be the Batman of Nolans Universe
Bottom Line, I love most of the movie,Nolan was in an impossible situation after TDK, nothing he did could have lived up to TDK, astonishingly he got close....
but The Ending has big problems for me.....
PS, please dont respond back with desperate reasons why I'm wrong just to argue.....as I've told you I'm not in the mood to fight with you right now....
You asked for my problems, I gave them, I have no desire to defend them after you reply with some desperate excuses in an attempt to argue.....
PS prediction for Star Wars opening weekend? you cant think its going to a real high number right? because you've made your opinions crystal clear that the Star Wars Franchise is on life support after TLJ and SOLO....so surely you must be thinking TROS is going to open pretty low right?
and based on past trolling I'd say you must be expecting a Sub 150 M opening right?
I mean Jurassic World 2 dropped from 208 Million to a sub 150 Million Opening, I dont remember you saying that was Awful or that the franchise was in trouble?
So I got to believe, If since you think The SW fanchise is in trouble, That means You would be expecting a Massive drop even worse than JW2's right?
First of all...i just saw The Rise of Skywalker tonight and loved it! I hope it does better than a sub-150 million opening but at this point who knows. The franchise is considerably weakened but it's hard to see general audiences not enjoying this pic. I had an absolute blast.
Secondly...i legitimately was curious as to what you found flawed in TDKR and you made some good points. The last thing I was looking for is an argument.
Have a nice night!
You loved TROS? LOL!
That is the biggest dumpster fire of a movie I have ever seen. Panned by critics and fans alike.
I would give you a lengthy list of my problems with that movie, but I'm not sure this website has enough bandwidth.
Yes...I really enjoyed it. I know I'm in the minority on this but...I like what I like. I'd be curious to see your list of problems with it.

Anyone who loves The Rise of Skywalker doesn't have a legitimate opinion.
And The Dark Knight Rises is definitely the greatest conclusion to any franchise, I loved just about everything about it. The only problem it has is it has a very loud yet small group of very stupid haters who are just looking for things to bitch about.
Looks like it's more in the vein of Inception. More of a thinking man's sci-fi film which is a positive I suppose.
I wanted to like Dunkirk and it was ok, but it felt very restrained in its presentation. It didn't have the scale that it should have done for a war movie about that particular event.
you're a fucking retard. Dunkirk was fantastic and interstellar was laughable tripe. Tenet will probably be just as silly
and nonsensical as the latter.
