So did Clare just get away with murder?
I Suppose they can't touch the ambassador as he has diplomatic immunity

reply

She did. Marlowe thought it was justified, and let her off the hook. But, he gave Cedric the murder weapon to use as leverage in the event that Clare ever tries to wrong him.

reply

My understanding was that the ambassador was going to be the AMERICAN ambassador to the UK, not a foreign ambassador posted in the USA - so diplomatic immunity wouldn't apply.

reply

I wondered about that, but on Green Acres .... Or Matlock?

reply

Can't comment on those, but if there was a plot point about an American ambassador getting away with crimes committed IN US territory because of diplomatic immunity, it must have been either ignorance from the screenwriter, or artistic license.

reply

They never actually said that. I was just assuming that since he went unpunished...

reply

The idea is that Joseph P. Kennedy had the approval of the president of the United States (FDR). Nobody was going to mess with him.
