I liked it. It isn't amazing, but it's entertaining and has a few excellent, heartfelt scenes. Neeson is a bit old for the role, but not by much, and he pulls it off for the most part. It's definitely got the vibe down for a Marlowe story, and the recreation of 1939 L.A. is lovely.

is it worth a 30 min drive to go watch

For me it would be, but I'm a huge fan of the cinema experience. That said, I think the kind of film this is gains something from watching on a big screen, as it's set in the '30s, and is based on a character from the era when the movies was the only place to see movies. It's easier to feel transported by this film in a theater than I think it would be at home.
