Keaton & Fraser talk Batgirl

Both Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser are out there right now giving interviews for their recent works. Both are also connected by the fact they were starring in the “Batgirl” film, serving as the biggest supporting stars alongside lead actress Leslie Grace.

Keaton scored his first Emmy win for best lead actor in a limited or anthology series on Sunday for “Dopesick”. He was asked by Variety backstage in the press room about the cancellation of “Batgirl”. He says: “I think it was a business decision. I’m going to assume it was a good one. I really don’t know.”

He was also asked when he will next appear as Batman, to which he joked: “A little later tonight, probably, if you’re lucky enough. No I’m kidding. I don’t know. I really have no idea.”

Also speaking with the outlet but in Toronto for his role in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” at the film festival, Brendan Fraser was asked about the “Batgirl” film’s axing and said it was something he was ‘disappointed’ by:

“The fans really wanted to see this film made. Leslie Grace is a dynamo. The movie was shot and conceived for a smaller screen. In this age that we’ve come out of now between streaming service versus theatrical release, it wound up being the canary in the coal mine. What did we learn from this? Work with trusted filmmakers, like Darren [Aronofsky].”

Under the terms of Warner Bros. Discovery’s writing off the $90 million-budgeted “Batgirl” for tax purposes, what was made of the film so far can never be shown outside of the company.
