Yes, cute for kids. But as a parent, I need to see a sequel with Peach reuniting with her parents who have been desperately trying to find their baby girl for oh so many years.
I think the failure of the live-action SMB movie all those years ago made Nintendo gun shy for a very long time about trying to do ANY sort of feature film. That's the only explanation I have.
It was flat out soulless. You wouldn't be defending this movie if it didn't have a Mario trademark on it. You DEFINITELY wouldn't have defended this movie if it had a Disney trademark on it.
Actually, I think it's precisely because of all the Disney junk in recent years that this film became a smash hit at the box office.
It looks great, no doubt, but in terms of its content it's only seen as amazing because everything else surrounding this film (in terms of competition), is absolute junk. So it makes this look like a diamond in the rough by comparison.
I'm not saying it's not empty, just that it's not as empty as a Disney film.
It has similar problems (i., girl boss; weak men who have to struggle where the women don't face the same kind of struggles or need help from the men because "stronk wahmen"; villain who can't be a true villain for fear of him offending someone etc., etc.,) but it's not quite as overt with it as Disney films.
"It's not as empty because....it just isn't okay?!"
No they're about the same amount. People are just hypercritical of Disney because they expect wokeness from the door.
