I don't get Mario fandom

I remember when nintendo came out. I remember the Super Mario Brothers show. I saw the 93 movie in theaters. I played all the games up till N64.

But it never really got into Mario Brothers as a fan. They were just kind of ...there.

Are there big fans because of the new systems that came out after N64?

reply

YES...THE MARIO PARTY SSERIES IS INTO DOUBLE DIGITS ON INSTALLMENTS AND THEIR ARE NUMEROUS CONNECTED AND SPIN OFF GAMES...IT IS A GIGANTIC THING.

reply

I'm glad people are into it. I'm just a little astonished. Games were originally a pastime. Now it seems like every game is a workweek of content.

reply

Beats me, I gave up at Mario 64. Completing everything didn't matter anymore. I have a switch with Odyssey and Wii.U, but I cant get into them. I'm no longer 9.

It's pretty interesting. I see people my age (41) who are treating this property like it was a big deal when we were kids, but I don't remember it being a big deal. Yeah, there was Nintendo Power and rentals at the video store, but we were drawing X-Men, and usually got kicked out of the house if our parents saw us on the Nintendo for more than an hour.

reply

I didn't get into it because they were on NINTENDO systems and it catered to mostly kids sadly. I usually had PS or Xbox and it never ported over so I stopped at Gamecube Luigi's Mansion.

What 'fandom' exactly are you referring to here?

Or are you annoyed that people are seeing this movie?

reply

No. It's actually a better movie for Mario. The live action version is so bad its entertaining, but animated definitely suits Msrio. I was just surprised people were so excited.

reply

Mario is globally famous and kids still love it. Most people I know who've seen it have done so because of their kids.

reply

That makes sense. It's definitely a kids movie. My surprise came from single adults who were really into it. Either way, it's apparently great.

reply

I'm not a gamer, but I get it, because MarioKart is one of the FEW games I can actually stand playing, and genuinely enjoy, when my brother or nephew wants me to play a videogame with them.
