Isn't the Super Mario character considered offensive and racist?

I know back in 1985, the world was a lot less sensitive. But a character like Mario wouldn't fly by today due to "cultural appropriation" or some bs like that.

Your thoughts? A sad commentary on how our world has become since 1985?

Italians are not in the 'cultural appropriation' handbook despite Europe being extremely diverse and cultural, it's written off as 'white culture' so it's okay to make fun of them and have non-Italians play Italian characters.

The rules are constantly changing and if you're not on board, you're a relic.

reply

If it was blacks they wouldn't shut up about it, that's for sure.

reply

blacks are sensitive little babies

reply

I can't argue against that today. I know, I know, that's racist...

reply

Yes, it IS racist. All 3 (maybe 4) of you

reply

Italians, Spaniards, French, Germans, Dutch, British etc are more than just white people was the purpose of my post btw, certainly no racial bend to it.

reply

I didn't think you were racist, I was only saying maybe because I don't know you. Judging by your post, you actually made a very good point, but it unfortunately attracted racists or trolls (or both) to exchange their beliefs.

reply

As long as you acknowledge that terms such as "white fragility" are also racist. All I ask for is internal, logical consistency with the word "racist."

reply

Of course I do. I believe you can be racist against white people. I believe you can be racist against anyone. Racism is racism. That's besides the point. It doesn't change the fact that you put black people in a category and agreed that they are all "sensitive little babies." As someone that has a diverse family and grew up in a very diverse area, I would never in my life think of saying anything like that.

I would argue that white leftists who feel the need to speak on behalf of all minorities and people that are open about their prejudiced beliefs are part of the problem. Fighting racism with racism does nothing, and yet so many people still do it. Just because you have anger about racism against your own race doesn't mean you should hold racist views of said group. It doesn't accomplish anything.

True. I's strange how they demand respect for their unique cultural diversities and contributions and yet can be so offensive and disrespectful of others by lumping by their cultural differences into a skin pigmentation.

reply

I don't know, why don't you go see it. I'm sure you'll find something to be offended by.

reply

Nah. Italians are mega based. I bet you'll struggle to find a single Italian that gives a single fuck.

reply

Haven't you heard? All white men are the root of all evil, and therefore subject to scorn and ridicule.

reply

Is Racism in any senst good? No. Should we care too much about it? No, because we don't have a history of real suppression. Do I like it that nearly all Germans are portrayed as evil basterds? No, because why should I get pissed because of stereo types. I am more offended of that Hollywood prefers to give any rundown coffee shop actor the german extra instead of searching for a proper german speaker, who should be not to hard to find in Hollywood.

reply

Wait, are you saying Italy isn't actually floating with question blocks and flying turtles?

reply

It's not?
