It takes a rare talent to mess up a good story

If you haven't seen that many supernatural mysteries, you might find this one entertaining. But if you have, you'll find it pretty derivative of what you've seen before (the mysteriously locked room, the hidden passage, oh look--a child's toy, etc).

And what's worse, the camera is always focusing on the least interesting aspects of the story, trying to create an eternal sense of buildup with very little payoff in the end. Lydia Wilson is beautiful, but I got very tired of all those closeups of her pretty but too-stoic face. (When she does actually smile at the end, it's creepy.) The story had potential, but the engaging parts of it are always passed over so we can see more of that bland beauty staring at things.

This might have worked as a 90-minute movie, but it definitely wasn't worth 6 hours.
