Cool. I love this miniseries. It gave me nightmares.
shareThe miniseries director seemed really cool! Also made me realize i need to upgrade my old dvd copy. The footage they use looked great!.
Haven't finished it yet, my young kids came home from school, dont wanna scare them just yet lol. But im so glad this version countines to have a powerful cult following
At what age did you first see the miniseries? I must have been around 11. I think my younger brother, who would have been 7, saw it with me.
As an aside, as much as I love the 2017 and 2019 films, and would say they're superior films overall, I do think Tim Curry's Pennywise is *scarier*. The poster alone gives me the creeps.
I was the around the same age. This doc is very forthright about what worked and what didnt work in the production. And yes every one agree Tim curry is just a magical performer. And they talk about how tim wanted to use less prosthetics and really rely on his expressive face to scary the shit out of people. Tim's candor in the interviews is awesome hes just like ..yea i scared the shit outta alot kids, maybe a lota kids shouldn't have watched it lol. The guy is such a gift.
Tim Curry is, for me, one of the scariest mainstream actors. There's something particularly creepy and mesmerising about his eyes. He played two of the scariest villains of my childhood (i.e. Pennywise, and Darkness in Legend, and it's amazing how unrecognisable he is in both, and yet one feels that only Curry could have made those characters as frightening as they were). In hindsight, I think he would have been the ultimate Joker circa 1980s/90s, as much as I adore Jack Nicholson's performance, but it's likely that he would have been *too* scary for a mainstream blockbuster comic-book movie (in fact, that was the reason he was replaced as the *voice* actor for The Joker in the animated series, which is something when you think of how creepy Mark Hamill, the eventual Joker voice-actor, sounds is in the role).
I need to check that doc out, with my brother.
Tim curry as the joker is very intense to even just imagine!
shareThe thing is, Tim Curry could easily have played any of the various live-action iterations of The Joker we've seen, from Jack Nicholson to Joaquin Phoenix. He could play the arrogant, slick gangster or the pathetic, sadsack would-be stand-up comic.
