Comyn’s death scene.
To begin, I know it’s just a movie and that there are no definitive historical insights into how Comyn died or by whom but it’s a great scene and I’m always captivated by it.
It’s difficult to catch me off guard with violence but goodness gracious, this scene is so brutal. Can you imagine having a dagger shoved into your mouth, then slowly pressed through your upper, hard palate, and beyond, all while fighting someone in the process. What must have been going through his mind!
I also appreciate Bruce’s rationale for killing Comyn in such an atypical way, he needed to off Comyn but it had to be as quiet as possible so as not to alert Comyn’s entourage.
Edit: Just watched Braveheart and realized this scene is an Easter egg of sorts, paying homage to Braveheart.
In the revenge of Murron’s murder scene, Wallace shoves an antler up a British soldier’s lower jaw in similar fashion.
