- swords
- past lives
- life long rival/friends

allllrighty then

I wonder if THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE?

Highlander meets Assassins Creed meets Old Guard meets Wanted meets The Matrix meets Inception meets Fast & Furious/M:I meets Bourne meets Max Payne

reply

That's about right

Can someone in the class define a completely new concept that would be worthy of watching? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

reply

Good luck. There's not been anything new under the sun since they started scribbling on cave walls. That doesn't mean there aren't great movies using these universal concepts; the magic is in presenting it in a creative way.

you can tell the same old stories in brave, interesting, new ways. this film doesn't appear to try to do that, just the same old, same old.

really good films come out all the time, retreading done story stuff. what sets them apart is great writing: quality, interesting, entertaining characters, great, interesting, entertaining dialog, interesting and entertaining action.

reply

Except basically just the title idea with no actual story, which is a shame.

Also (having finally watched it) Infinity War (the egg/Infinty stones, Bathurst/Thanos). It would've been weird had Chris Evans been in the lead role (dropped out due to scheduling issues)

reply

There's not much new here. I mean, it needn't be wildly original, but with this one practically every moment seemed like a reference to some other film... Mostly Highlander and The Matrix... But with a good deal of Christopher Nolan.
I really had trouble getting through it and if I couldn't fast forward through some of the fights, I would not have bothered.

reply

Pretty good for what it is, but not a patch on Highlander. There's no centuries old flashbacks exploring rivalry, love or friendship unfortunately, all we is a very short montage of past lives.

Highlander is one of a kind – it’s a kind of magic!

reply

... I see what you did there ;) :D

reply

That's probably what's missing to make this a semi-decent movie...A back story.
The main characters had very little shown, too much told, and I just didn't give a shit about any of them.
In Highlander we know what drives McCleod. We get to see him at his highest (no pun intended) and lowest points of his life.
He's a tragic character and care about him.

finally had the chance to watch this...

yes, there can be only one, and this is not it.

delivery seemed TV show-like, narraration is always death, amazing powers out of almost no where, and over the top CGI.... a super hero movie? whatever. skipped to the ended and didn't feel anything for any of this film. bah
