It's not possible, the mother will be in agony and screaming, and even if she tries to keep the vocal cords apart, they will come together unexpectly and she will be monster food.

And if the mother isn't going to cry out, then the baby will certainly do that!

Stupid, stupid movie. Didn't think its own premise through, properly.

I know it's now been explained that she did scream when the fireworks went off. Of course she did manage not to scream when she trod on that bloody (pardon the pun) nail sticking up out of the stairs. When the husband came in later, I was almost thinking that he would tread on it as well for comedy effect.
