Will this be the "Get Out" of 2018?
Another horror movie released early in the year that everyone loves. Thoughts on award potential? Emily Blunt needs an Oscar nomination NOW.

shareI didn't like "Get Out". I thought "It" should've been Oscar-nominated instead.
No, It's a very well done movie, just as Get-Out was.
But Get-Out had a ton of organic and manufactured steam behind it.
I don't think A Quiet Place will be propelled in the same way to Box Office $$$
Just calling it as I See and Feel The Movement of the Crowds.
I was thinking of this a little bit. TV comedy actor directs horror movie, it turns out to transcend the genre. Just the thing with Get Out that carried it all the way to the Oscars was the social commentary it had. I'd like to see the Academy nominate a straight up horror film and this was is fantastic but I think their bias towards the genre will come up again and this may not be remembered come Oscar time.
Have a short review of this one here if anyone is interested- https://youtu.be/k42HUCd0zzM
An interesting idea. The premise in this film is equally ridiculous as is the one in 'get out'. And if you use your conspiracy driven brain well enough, you could start to draw parallels between this world where anything that makes sound dies and our world, where those that speak out against the establishment are shut down - thereby making this the most intelligent film of the century!
I'm kidding -
'Get out' was ridiculous that was raised to the level of greatness black people saw it for something that it wasn't. This film falls in the same category - crap.
This movie is wayyyy better than Get Out but that doesn't take much.
share"Get Out" only received award-show love because in addition to its horror it had a component of social commentary that took it to another level. "Quiet Place" is just, pure and simple, a horror film....so, no, it won't get any prestige award nominations but should clean up at fantasy/genre fests.
sharethe new yorker reviewer was wondering why they had only ''white people'' and why the family had a ''stash of guns.''
shareThe movie was entirely without a doubt presented with an Oscar for the themes that involved black people and that will immediately get you recognized in this current climate. For A Quiet Place to get nominated, it would need either black people or something involved with 'Me Too'.
shareA horror movie where the monster is the metoo hashtag come alive killing anyone accused of sexual predatry!
Both are great, but on two different levels. Get Out was alot more clever in its writing and directing; many may not see it, but there's a lot more to the film than the social commentary that allowed it to sweep up in the Oscar season. Get Out is also far more original and unique, whereas A Quiet Place is alot more atypical with one gimmick that makes it somewhat stand out (being silent). Study the two films side-by-side on an analytical level and you'll see how much more tight, precise, and well devised practically every single aspect of Get Out is over A Quiet Place.

hmm i would say it would not make sense then, but on the other hand I did not buy the reasoning why the white and Asian characters would choose black people. It just doesn't make sense from a racist point of view or a practical one. I still feel the film was a entertaining movie and very well done overall, but to call it original I think is a stretch.
shareGreat writing, acting, and directing all certainly helped...
