One problem I had that no one's mentioned...

Or at least I haven't heard mentioned. They made NO attempt to recreate the 90s the way X-Men First Class recreated the 60s, Days of Future Past the 70s, and Apocalypse the 80s. They even used a made-up president whereas Kennedy, Nixon, and Reagan were established as the presidents in the respective previous films. What gave away that it was the 90s other than no cell phones?

Besides that, I didn't really have a problem with the movie other than, like almost everyone else, I didn't want to see Dark Phoenix adapted again. It didn't deserve to do well, but it doesn't deserve to bomb either. I liked it better than Wolverine in Japan.

Whereas Captain Marvel did it too much. It was like someone elbowing you every 5 minutes and saying "See, this is from the 90's. Get it?"

Wasn't the president meant to be Bush? Idk.. he didn't look like him and wasn't mentioned by name. maybe they figured he wasn't that memorable to warrant a direct impersonation ? (like the others)

There was a 90s reference I got though. When Jessica and the black alien guy go to Jeans fathers house they get stopped by the cops and they go 'we're FBI' and Jessica is dressed same style as Scully back then black trench coat .. also the party at night seemed abit 90s with the music/singer (at first I thought it was a genuine 90s singer they'd brought in to do the scene but nah) also (this is a stretch) but the end scene with Charles/Erik reminded me of the 1st Mission Impossible (1996) end scene with Hunt and Luthur sitting outside a bar (although it was also reminiscent of the end of The Dark Knight Rises which I think they were going for more which the way it was shot/the look of it)

Also (another stretch) the train finale brought back memories of 1995s Under Siege 2 lol

But yeah there wasn't much 90s stuff. Like at all. Maybe the fashions and the cars but nothing really stuck out (were the cars even 90s? Idk lol)
