I have 1 Question about the movie. before i go see it.

is this movie better then X-Men: The last Stand? based on the Trailers, Tv spots and clips. it looks better then TLS. I thought it was going to be a Remake of X-Men: The Last Stand.

give me spoilers!! I don't care.

reply

Yes, much better! Better than Apocalypse too! Go see it!

reply

ok. I already saw it. thanks.

This movie is boring and anticlimactic. The Last Stand at least had large scale action to compensate for it's messy screenplay and you also were a bit more invested in the characters coming off of the first two movies. The Last Stand feels rushed but Dark Phoenix feels slow and plods along and felt much longer than two hours.

Yep I'd rather watch the silly, tonally messy albeit entertaining Last Stand than the slow and achingly dull Dark Phoenix. It's either this or Apocalypse for the franchise low point for me, which is a shame as I really liked First Class and Days Of Future Past.

reply

I liked this movie. it was good. a lot better then The Last Stand.

reply

It's hard to admit you wasted time and money.

reply

I didn't waste my time and money on this movie.

reply

Come on, you know you did. We all did. That was without a shadow of doubt the worst xmen movie yet. Yes, worse than origins and the last stand. And that’s before we get to the plot, pacing, law phoning it in, Sansas horribly distracting American accent, coupled with her wooden one dimensional acting.

That is the one good thing about the end of thrones. Sansa can stop being a thing now.

It had some nice action scenes, but that was really it.

reply

Agreed. This and Apocalypse were pitiful efforts by Simon Kinberg.

The man is still stuck in the mindset he thinks he’s giving fans what they want even though he hasn’t a clue about how to tell a good story arc and develop characters over multiple films.

Fans want Apocalypse, here he is, no Thanos level build up. Fans want the Dark Phoenix Story, here it is in only Sophie Turner’s second movie in this franchise.

So glad we might actually get some X-Men movies now that do the characters and storylines justice. Even the early Singer movies are frustrating in how they sideline Cyclops and basically become The Wolverine show.

It’s a shame we’re going to have to wait a while for that to happen though, I can’t see Marvel Studios rebooting X-Men for at least another 5 years so they can distance themselves as far away from this turd as possible.

reply

How was it worse than Origins? When was the last time you watched that movie because the effects in it were terrible.

reply

“Effects”. Jesus Christ.

reply

The effects were just one of the film’s many problems. Dark Phoenix at least gave its protagonist an arc.

While Origins pretended to have one. It kept saying that Wolverine was an “animal” but never showed it, so his arc fell flat.

reply

If you say so.

reply

Well I did. Paid €57 for the whole thing (two tickets plus very expensive parking)

reply

I too liked this movie. I put it on par with X-Men Last Stand. Standard disclaimer applies... I don't have a PhD in film, and don't hyper-analyze cinematography, etc.

reply

I' don't compare it with another X-men movies as I can't remember how I felt the. But from watching this movie alone it wasn't that bad. It kept me interested until the end and the action scenes were quite good.

reply

“anticlimactic”

It was never made to be an ending.

“The Last Stand at least had large scale action to compensate for it's messy screenplay”

This movie was meant to be small scale according to the filmmakers since production began.

“you also were a bit more invested in the characters coming off of the first two movies.”

The characters in Dark Phoenix have been around three movies and Sophie’s Jean is far more developed than Famke’s Jean. So I don’t see how you could be more invested in the lesser developed original cast, unless it’s due to nostalgia.

reply

Sophie's Jean was only in two, and barely in Apocolypse. Not even a main character. I was much more invested in Famke's Jean Grey.

reply

She was a main character. She had as much screen time as Magneto and Mystique. Even had her own subplot.

reply

In Apocolypse? I disagree.

reply

I found it to be on par with The Last Stand. If you found that OK, this won't be that much worse.

reply

I finally caught this movie over the weekend (Free Pay per view offer). While far from the best film in the series, I have to admit it is not as bad as all the haters want you to believe.

reply

The Last Stand is better. Go figure.

reply

why do you think that?

reply

It has the OG cast.

reply

I refuse to see this after finding out the Shiar are bad guys.

reply

They weren't Shiar. They were D'Bari.

reply

The bad guys were D'Bari. not Shiar.
