Titled Just "Dark Phoenix" for PC Social Justice Reasons?

It appears from the trailer, the wikipedia page, and other sources I've seen that this movie will simply be promoted as Dark Phoenix and not "X-Men: Dark Phoenix", which is breaking away from the trend of the past several X Men movies (not counting the Wolverine spin-offs)

i can't see any reason for doing this other than to be politically correct. The promotion has made a big hoopla about how this will be a very woman-centered movie, with Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jessica Chastain having the main roles.

So considering that, I'm sure some SJW feminazi blogger would have conjured up a controversy about how the movie is still called X "MEN" even when it's supposed to be about women. And then some weirdo on Twitter will propose permanently changing the canon so that the name X Men will change to something gender neutral

It may sound farfetched, but I think this is the case. This is the world we live in today

OR, if this happens...they realize that X-Men films are moderately successful and the "X-Men" tag is not a huge draw that they hoped it would be since the best received and most successful ones (Logan, Deadpool, The Wolverine) don't have X-Men as a tagline?

reply

LOL are you really claiming that The Wolverine was more successful than X Men 2, First Class, or Days of Future Past? It was DEFINITELY not more critically acclaimed, and its box office opening was among the lowest of all X Men films

Try again, sweaty

reply

No, X2 was great and I love all those films. But in the scale of things, the "X-Men" franchise is just not a huge seller. It does fine, but not...stellar. Certainly not what X-Men movies SHOULD do.

And the last outing certainly didn't help things.

reply

Yeah, the real reason has to be because they don't think the X-Men brand is a big draw.

The real motives in Hollywood are always financial, always. Even when they claim they're doing something to be PC, it's because they think that the more PC choice will make more money.

According to the director it’s same reason why Logan was not called X-Men: Logan: because it’s Jean’s story. It’s still called X-Men: Dark Phoenix internationally.

reply

Exactly.

reply

Please don't give the self-proclaimed PC Police any ideas!

reply

According to the director it’s because it’s Jean’s story like Logan’s was Wolverine’s story.

reply

that's just an excuse

Logan was a legit Wolverine spin off that featured none of the other X Men

Dark Phoenix has Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Mystque, Magneto, Beast, Quicksilver, etc. It's a bonafide X Men movie

Not to mention Logan took place in what may have been an alternate reality. Dark Phoenix is a direct continuation to Apocalypse

“Logan was a legit Wolverine spin off that featured none of the other X Men”

You’re forgetting about Xavier.

“Dark Phoenix has Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Mystque, Magneto, Beast, Quicksilver, etc. It's a bonafide X Men movie”

And Captain America: Civil War had almost all of the Avengers in it. Yet it was not a bonafide Avengers movie.

“Not to mention Logan took place in what may have been an alternate reality.”

It wasn’t according to the director/writer and producer.

“Dark Phoenix is a direct continuation to Apocalypse”

Captain America: Civil War was a direct continuation of Avengers: Age of Ultron considering the Accords and Zemo’s motive was a result of those events. The events of Apocalypse probably won’t even factor that much into the plot of Dark Phoenix.

reply

Sure, because everything's done just to piss off the anti-SJW crowd.

You know nothing about the source material TC.

Internationally it's still X-Men - Dark Phoenix. PC or not, nobody will waive the X-Men brand title. Those movies are revered classics.

reply

Excuse you, do you know anything?

X2: X-Men United was often just called X2.

The Wolverine was the first movie in the series to not have an 'X-Men' header at all. It was was the sixth entry in the series, whereas Dark Phoenix is the twelfth. Deadpool, Logan, and Deadpool also didn't. So that's five of the twelve. Six of the thirteen once The New Mutants arrives. Nearly half the series.

Maybe it's because always having 'X-Men' in front gets redundant. And Deadpool 2 even comments on the phrase 'X-men.' And Dark Phoenix is the title of the arc. Maybe that has something to do with it.

And before you call me a feminazi, I'm a guy.
