let's cut him open

That seems to be the solution for every problem. Are there no internists, endocriologists, radiologists, gynecologists etc..?
In my world, IF surgery is necessary, surgeons take over after a diagnosis has been made by other specialsts.
In this show's cosmos everything has to be done by those glorious surgeons.

reply

Yeah, I'm not a doctor and but it's still obviously unrealistic as I imagine are most medical dramas.

reply

This show is to make your world seem a bit warmer, think of it as a commercial.

reply

Better yet, think of it as if it is to make your world seem a bit warmer, inspire people who think positively to go into medicine, and think of it as a commercial for the medical industry.

reply

Not to mention they turn people's lives over to this mentally challenged weirdo.

reply

LOL
( he is a weirdo, but mentally challenged ... not so much, at least in terms of medical/surgical expertise )

Seems to be a big thing with medical drama's in general. How many times have you heard a surgeon say "I love cutting" I mean really? I know they might be saving a life by cutting a patient open but it's like hearing a jet pilot say "I love bombing".

reply

That's a totally invalid, flawed analogy.
Only a very small fraction of jet pilots ever bomb or even fly an airplane capably of bombing,
whereas all surgeons must "cut" to be called a practicing surgeon.

The OP is right. A specialist’s speciality will determine her/his prescribed course of treatment. Surgeons want to cut. Psychiatrists like to prescribe meds rather than perform actual therapy. (Do you know that the typical social worker has more training in clinical psychology than a psychiatrist? Scary.) Clinical psychologists like to perform emotional therapy. Chiropractors like to manipulate your body hands-on. Acupuncturists like to manipulate the energy (chi) flowing THROUGH your body. This is why we ALL need to find ourselves a GREAT Primary Care Physician, whose speciality is managing your health and REFERRING you to the appropriate specialist(s) to take care of you and not to cater to their egos.

You don’t think doctors have huge egos, ESPECIALLY male doctors? You don’t know many doctors.
