The way ahead is a TV Series starring Nick Stahl as John Connor Claire Danes as Kate Brewster and Arnie as an older Sergeant Candy fighting his cyborg Doppelgängers and then you can kill an older 47 year old John as it is said in T3

Hmmm…I had high hopes for this flick. It’s actually not a terrible movie, and I did enjoy it more than all of the other sequels since T2

…..but I do think it was super stupid to kill off John Connor right at the start. If the timeline was changed, I think it would have been much more meaningful if John Conner was the reason that another person could carry the torch. IMO, John Connor should have been the protagonist of the movie (being kind of an Obi-Wan to a new resistance leader).
