A classic case of ever dimishing returns

If ever there was a franchise that followed the law of ever diminishing returns, it's this one. The writing was on the wall after Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. That's where it should have ended and quit why it was ahead. But no, they had to destroy the Terminator legacy with three extra rubbish sequels like this. If only we could send someone back in time to 2009 to stop Terminator Salvation being made.

I thought this was easily the best in the series since Judgement Day, but ultimately mostly forgettable. Salvation was conceptually more interesting, but it just isn't any good.

The issue is that like this and others, Predator comes to mind. They were self enclosed stories and didn't want or need sequels.

All correct, but like judgement day, after t3 a sequel set in the future war was inevitable.
And THAT shitfest by mcg is when everything went downhill, like you said.
But there is no way they could have stopped at t3.
