One problem with the Terminator movies

Every movie introduces a more advanced terminator, but after Dark Fate and the "splitting" terminator, I'd be ok with another duel between human and T800, or T800 and T1000.

Would a new movie with "old" terminators work?

I don't consider "Dork Fate" canon, let alone the few that came before it.

It's because of the of the 'bigger=better' mindset, concerning the FX of T2 onwards, that the film-makers daren't deviate from this 'formula' (despite it's diminishing returns?)

In the (superior) original movie, Schwarzenegger himself was considered the 'special' effect (or draw) of the movie. From T2 onwards, the franchise became a showcase for whatever 'CGI FX package' was new at the time.

Perhaps going back to basics (i.e, man vs basic machine) *might* save the franchise, but the makers of such movies don't trust their own audience anymore (and thinks they can only handle megabuck spectacle over subtle menace?)

As (clearly) proven with the last few movies, throwing tens of millions at the screen, isn't the answer?

It's been officially confirmed with Dark Fate we can never ever get out of Terminator 2, that's the formula we can't change the formula.

I'm keen on a accidental time mishap where one terminator and one human go back to prehistoric times. Have to team up battling dinasours. Or human and dinasour vs terminator. Either way, good shit.
