Can someone tell me what the point of this movie was?
It seems all they did was just recycle the same story all over again just with different characters.

I thought it was pretty obvious... the only reason to make this movie was to keep milking the fans (money), it's been the only purpose of this franchise post-1991.
shareI finally saw this movie last night and it was beyond generic. It was the same damn story that had been told much better in 1984 and 1991. I really don't see this movie having a fan base meaning I don't see them getting a sequel, so what do they do now? They've already erased 3-5 from canon, do they just reboot the series again? Seriously when you erase 3 movies from a franchise you'd better make sure people are going to like what you are replacing them with.

shareExactly and they’ve already said that John Conner doesn’t matter any more so they have no choice but to continue the Dani storyline and they now have to keep coming up with reasons why the T 800 is old due to Arnies age. It’s seriously time to just throw in the towel, they made two great movies just cut your loses and be happy they at least did that
shareThey have milked this thing to death. I am one of the few that liked T3, but even then I figured that was it. Great ending and sets up the timeline.
They have done three movies and a TV show since then and all were considered failures with diminishing returns. The only way this can be considered saved in the eyes of the studio is if Cameron himself came back. We all see how well that did when they got Ridley Scott back for the Alien franchise and Shane Black for Predator.
There are probably 2000 original screenplays sitting in a production office with greater blockbuster ideas than another Terminator (or Alien or Predator) movie. At some point you have to just try something else.
Honestly from where I'm standing it's over, they have already wiped 3-5 from continuity and what they replaced it with was no better than 3-5. I do not see anyone tuning in for a sequel to find out what happens with Dani and Grace, not to mention that Dark Fate's box office was underwhelming at best. Furthermore they are going to have to keep coming up with lame explanation after lame explanation as to why the T-800 looks like a 70 year old man.

Ummm dark fate was clearly a direct sequel to T2 in the universe of dark fate 3-5 didn’t happen
