But the AI still decides that time travel is the only solution? My guess on the way to this technology there bound to be some tasty goodies which could have helped to fix the problem of pesky humans.

the easiest way for machines to wipe out all of mankind would be releasing some viruses i.e. biological warfare.

Besides the JC issue, isn't that really the problem with DF? Basically it isn't any different that all of the other movies except Salvation - evil terminator gets sent back along with a protector. There is really only so many times that can be told.
