i think the first one is better than the second. The first terminator was disturbing as hell. The gritty flashbacks to the bad future that's all washed out in a dreary blue night sky, with mounds of skulls everywhere. The sequels while entertaining at best has never tried to match that tone. Not even T2 comes close. The funny thing about T2 is it's got some of the best action scenes put to film, but the rest of the movie is a god damn mess. The Terminator also not killing also takes a bit of a punch out of that big Cynerdyne minigun action scene.

In hindsight T2 was never that good in the first place. It was entirely coasting on cool CGI which was a relatively novel thing at the time. The action scenes were good though, which i think helps it's standing all these years, likewise the VFX. But i loved it when it first came out.

I disagree, there was a lot more to T2 than cool CGI. It had depth in all the characters(including Arnold lol!), Sarah had evolved greatly from T1 and was much more developed in the second film, the story had a deeper underlining theme of mankind's self destruction more so than the first one, it had a father/son theme going on through out the movie, even supporting characters like Dyson had some depth especially in the Special Edition. It was a much deeper film than your average action sequel. The second movie had plenty of substance and not just entirely coasting on cool CGI, I think you're referring more to 2010 summer films or modern day action films in general, those seem to rely more on CGI and less on plot development/depth nowadays. They really do, Summer films used to be better and T2 is a great example of that! I love both films but I don't get why people are hating on T2 nowadays, it's better than a lot of crap Hollywood puts out now.
