So I just got done watching the movie....

Very much enjoyed it, IMO its very good.

But my big problem is.

Literally the first 45 seconds of this film Spoils the big twist.

The film opens showing "Liz"(the movies lead character) In A "Cocoon" like wrap and Then immediately cut to a flash back showing her doing experiments and testing on lab rats.

lol Literally The first thought that came to my head is...."she's a clone"

lol If theres 2 things that point to "Clones" or "Cloning" in My movies, Its people being birthed in "Cocoon" like wombs and Scientists doing testing on lab rats...

I can think of almost every single movie(Literally Dozens) that deal with Clones and They all have The Clone in some kind of Cocoon.

I swear it was like they intentionally tried to start the movie with the 2 BIGGEST dead giveaways that she was a clone with Her being in a Cocoon and showing testing being done on rats...

Now I must admit, even though I instantly knew she was a clone, I was surprised by the over 2 twists...

I figured the twist was going to be that she was a clone of the real LIZ and was being made because the real LIZ was sick and dying and The Clone would fight the whole movie to survive only at the end, The real Liz would open The cryochamber and reveal she needs an organ or something from her and thats why she created the clone...

but Twist that she was in Space was Great, The Story about earth dying was great.

I just wish they didnt completely give away the biggest twist in the 45 seconds with 2 absurdly obvious details...

I mean seriously, Imagine someone explaining a movie to you and they say "Ok The movie opens with a female in a Cryochamber in A "Cocoon" like womb They then cut to a flashback of her experimenting on rats"....lol I think Literally 90% of the people would say "wait stop, Is she a clone"

Just watched it and disagree, the webbing could easily been part of the cryogenics - it was good you found the twist straight-away from very little information but other people might not - I did't figure out what she was until it was time.

It was a very good small scale, claustrophobic and not so claustrophobic at the same time with the lighting plus it had good sci-fi elements to it.

Yes Or It could have been a "Cocoon" like womb that nearly all movies use when dealing with "Clones"

I'm in no way saying that everyone who watches the movie will immediately know shes a clone, but It was Literally MY first thought, 45 seconds into the movie....between The "Cocoon" like Womb/wrap and Literally Immediately cutting to flash backs of experimenting on rats, They literally Gave 2 MONSTROUS Clues in the first 45 seconds what the twist was going to be

Had the film opened with simply something else other than her being in a "Cocoon" like wrap, Or maybe even If They kept The "Cocoon wrap" but didnt Immediately cut to flashbacks showing experimenting on rats, I think it would have Been Much Less Obvious

I dont not disagree that Its not unreasonable for someone to conclude the wrap she was in was for her "cryogenics sleep"...

I too almost certainly would have just assumed that as well, But It was the combination of BOTH The Cocoon Like Wrap and The experimenting on rats shown in literally the first 45 seconds on the movie that Made me instantly think she was a clone.

again I had the overall story dead wrong, I thought she was a clone being grown by the real Liz for organs or something and The Clone Liz would fight the whole movie to survive only to have the real Liz open the chamber and Kill her for her organs..

But the point is, for me, The Movie would have been absolutely EPIC had the twist not been so ruined....I LOVE movies with Twist ending, In fact they are my favorite type....I loved everything about this movie....The reveal that she was a clone would have Just been Amazing given how good the movie was and story was...I almost feel cheated, Like "damn, I wanted that experience, I wanted to be tricked, I wanted to NOT see the twist coming"....I just feel The Movies opening sequence was absurdly Obvious in giving away the twist

Fair enough, i thought it was just a wrap to keep her sedated like situation and the first thing i thought seeing the experimenting flashbacks was are they experimenting with her and seeing if she kind find her way out especially with the oxygen countdown, like the mice had to do in the mazes.

but then again i'm one of those people that watch killer movies and never pick up on the clue's of the killer and always shocked right to the end, so i loved the multiple twists that came as a surprise to me.

So i usually get the best enjoyment out all these type of mystery movies because i'm clueless, which is good.

I just checked out wiki and they have the full synopsis there so gave in and read it as I don't stream so would have to wait a few months or so for dvd (if I even remembered or saw it for sale cheap), its the kind of film I'd have enjoyed like Gravity meets Pandorum meets The Island/Moon. but now I spoiled it for myself so no need to see it now

reply

yeah, they made the clues a little too obvious. it would have been better with more mystery.
but still a very well made movie, with a few genuine suprises.

reply

Yeah - maybe i don't watch enough films about clones, but I didn't get that cacoon was indicative of cloning, given that it could also have been a part of the cryogenics process

Liz: MILO, how old is Omicron 267?

MILO: Omicron 267 is 12 years, 42 days, 17 hours and 56 minutes old.

Liz: What is Omicron 267?

MILO: Omicrons are non-contaminated genetic human reproductions designed to propagate the human race on Wolf 10-61c.

Liz: I'm a clone. I'm a fucking clone. I've never been outside this box!

So she's a fully adult clone of only 12 years? Even given the malformed rat clones we see, such truncated development is never explained which I thought was mildly problematic narratively.

reply

lol why would accelerated biological growth suddenly be the bridge too far and beyond suspension of disbelief in a movie with interstellar cryogenic memory transferred clones during a global viral apocalypse

I have to give you my "thumbs-up" verbally.
