I don't know much about autism, so forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't someone with autism have a hard time dealing with some things that come with acting and all of that? Would it really be realistic to cast someone with autism in such a show?

Complaining about that is kind of silly... the biggest issue with him isn't whether he really has autism or not, it is that he looks a lot older than 18. To me that is the biggest miscast of the whole show, they used a lot of actors that are 7 or 8 years older than they are supposed to be and it shows, sometimes it can be covered a bit but if the show goes for several seasons it will only start looking more and more miscast as the actors age shows more and more vs the age of the character they are playing.

The way they look has nothing to do with whether they can act. Meryl Streep can act but she would be a bad fit for a movie where she was supposed to play a 18 year old coed simply because she looks much older and nothing you do is going to change that fact.
