Entertaining yarn
As a video gamer, I always used to wonder something like this - NPCs having intricate loops and lives and what they do etc. So in some open world games, I used to follow them and see their complex routines kick in - most were basic but some like GTA:V and RDR2 were more complex and entertaining and used to wonder - if in future a game would be like our entire world and universe.
Which makes the whole thing even more philosophical and meta - like the Matrix - what if we're simulations ourselves in a larger game and everything is a program.
This is what briefly elevates this movie before it catches itself and goes back to the simple Wreck It Ralph like theme.
They could've made more out of this movie and more philosophical but they dropped it as quickly as it was brought up.
Overall, the movie is entertaining and Ryan Reynolds is perfect for this role. The other 2 kids are also well done and acted and they didn't go overboard and neither did that side char. Taika Waititi def went a little more overboard - presumably because he doesn't really understand gamers and is quirky himself. But it was still bearable.
The surprise cameos were fun - Loved the Chris Evans Capt America cameo. Channing Tatum was also interesting fun cameo.
Final rating: 7.5/10 - fun entertaining movie esp if you're a gamer without being too overdone.
