Not sure what he was trying to play, terrible actor, the worst in the movie (and it's a movie starring Ryan Reynolds).

shareIt's possible to have a good movie with bad actors. In fact I think the movie was ok.
I'm a gamer too, so why not? I also watched Pixels, which was terrible compared to this one. And it had Adam Sandler and Kevin James (i.e. not better than Reynolds).
Pixels was a shame. It seemed like an interesting concept in the trailers. And then it turned out so bad.
shareImo, he was not. He was too cartoonish, but not enough to be so bad as to actually be enjoyable. For example: taking an axe to servers, when he could've simply, idk, turned off the power? I get that this is a kid's movie, but that feels too dumbed down even for a kids movie.
Just for reference, I have nothing against Taika Waititi.
He was supposed to be funny, but he was cringy. Embarrassing to watch.
