While the group is all lying in the soccer field, the most hilarious exchange in the movie occurs between Helen and Cameron:

Helen: Is this just a joke to you?
Cameron: What? I didn't even say anything.
Helen: Exactly! You never say anything! And your silence feels aggressive, judgmental and it makes the space not safe.
Cameron: That's ridiculous.
Dr. Marsh: Well Helen perceives hostility in your behavior. You can agree or not, but you have to recognize that that is her truth.

I literally LOL'd at that exchange because it perfectly NAILS millennial speak, which I figured was the writer's intent. But then I remembered that this movie is supposed to be set in 1993. As someone who was a (gay) teenager in 1993, I can assure you that that type of dialogue would NEVER have been spoken at the time.

Bahahaha yes! I didn't even realize that until you just mentioned it. I was only two years old in 1993, but this line SCREAMS millennial! We'be become such little bitches although I think living in Spain has balanced that. I can make and take as many crude jokes as I want now because Spanish culture is VERY un-PC. We should relearn a thing or two from them so there won't be so many "humpty-dumpty"'s in the new generations.

Yep. We didn't have "safe spaces" in 1993 lol...there was no such thing! They hadn't been invented yet.

I noticed as well, and I wondered if that was therapist-speak that had only become societally common recently.

It stood out as strange for '93.

lmao, I'm watching the movie and this exact scene got me wondering (even asked my American friends). There were some earlier scenes that utilized this modern type of lingo, too, but I guess they weren't as in your face.
