Like this show, the idea of exposing the evil ones.

Couldn't help but think when they get out of the church and now they're free.

Free to what? To be slaves to even bigger slave master. They woke up from one sleep to another. Government telling what to do and what ever you do it costs you.
Try to get out of this system and you see that everything has its price. Try to ignore the price and you come to see government, like scientology church, has its own bullies to force you back in line. All is somewhat good as long as you stay in line feeding the beast.

They are now free to do whatever they want to do. Chill and read a book. Do it.

The government does not tell you what to do dude. You can live within society's norms or choose to your own path. The point is YOU get to decide not your religion. Sort of like when you leave the Jehovah's Witnesses. Would you like to celebrate birthdays, Halloween, Christmas and Easter? Not if you are a JW. They don't believe you should be allowed to celebrate any of those things.

It sounds like you've had a fairly privileged life that has allowed you to contemplate analytical questions. All leavers of any religion are now free to do that kind of thing, no matter how enslaved one feels by their taxes.
