she isn't really criticizing their insane core religious beliefs, just exposing them as crappy people in general. It makes what's she's doing seem more.. meaningful somehow.

I'll admit I haven't seen too many documentaries about Scientology but I've read a lot. And living pretty close to Clearwater, the church seems to come up kind of often. Whenever it does, people will call them crazy and just dismiss them all as a joke not realizing what this "church" really does to people

I agree, this is a good tactic. It's tough to attack the core of religious belief, they all look a little wacky under a microscope. But to focus on the terrible behaviors and corruption and manipulation and abuse? It's hard to argue with that.
