Recently learned they "infiltrate" medical practices
an advance tl'dr; I just discovered my niece's dental office was sucked into a Scientology scam and thought I would share with you what we have figured out so far.
I know it is long, but it is worth it.
If you have any questions about her experience, I will see if she can answer them.
I thought I would share something that I am only recently learning.
My niece came for a visit last week from several states away. She happens to be an office manager in a dental office, who started working there maybe 2008 or 09 as a "floater" doing different tasks.
One night during our visit I asked her had she been watching this show. She hadn't heard of it, and not too familiar with Leah Remini either. So I turned on an episode and she tinkered around for a while before she was going to sit down to watch. At some point she overheard one of the soundbites which I believe was the one of LRH saying he is the author of Scientology books/ Dianetics. She stopped in her tracks. She said, "HEY!! I took some of his courses!!" I looked at her and said, "You did what?? Are you sure??" Yep! She was positive! So we paused the show and started talking about what she experienced.
I am still reeling over all this!! First let me say that my niece is NOT a Scientologist, nor is her boss (the dentist) or anyone she works with.
She goes on to tell me what all was coming to mind as we talked, since as I said, we were both quite shocked. Back when she began at the dental office, there were a few times where the Doc, Docs husband, and office workers went to some "free workshops" in their area, which were geared towards how to build and grow a successful practice, and all these other zany courses we keep hearing about on the show. Those workshops of course led to trips to Clearwater, to attend these management-type seminars put on by a company going by MGE (management experts inc. mgeonline.com I think takes you to their FB page). Near as I can tell, MGE falls under the umbrella of WISE (World Institute of Scientology Enterprises) probably. When looking at MGE, there is ZERO connection made to Scientology to make you think they are part of it. Somebody told me yesterday they thought that when they got Tax Exempt status that WISE was supposed to cease to exist). Doc of course paid to attend, they insisted her husband attend, and whatever office workers, although I don't know who or how they chose who to take.
At some point during one of the Clearwater trips, the office manager at the time was there. They actually told Doc that the girl was an SP, was holding them back, not a team player, etc etc and that she needed to be fired.
At some point after that, my niece replaced her as the office manager. I have no idea if she had ended up being let go eventually, or perhaps she quit. So from then on, my niece attended these seminars in Clearwater with Doc. I recall vaguely her telling me about going for training back when this was happening (at this time it is now 2010) .
So we continue discussing what all happened. She said that a good bit of it was actually good info that could actually be helpful, but much of it was just bizarre. She didn't really feel at all like they were being recruited, just that they were learning odd things in odd ways. They extensively covered "hard selling", using techniques such as pressuring patients into paying for their dental treatment plans up front for a discount of course. Her office isn't just a dentist, they do appliances and sleep apnea and such, so treatment plans are probably commonplace. They went over things like closing sales, communication, stops and barriers My niece recalls attending 3 or 4 of them, not sure how many Doc, her husband or any other office staff went. So the other night she took a look at the office Quick Books since she handles all that as part of her duties. We roughly calculated that the Doc spent $30,000 in a span of just 7 months!! There were numerous payments for varying amounts, and paid by several different methods. Sometimes there would be several payments in a single day using different CCs or bank accounts. We aren't sure if that amount included travel expenses, hotel and food etc for about 3 days each trip. They were required to purchase tons of books (some huge set for the doctors office, among course books and such for the ones attending. There are CDs as well. She sent me pictures, and I am guessing there are at least 20 books.
From what my neice thinks, going by the bio of the man who did one of her course lectures, it seems they do this with TONS of dental practices AND Chiropractors! Once they have your practice under their thumb and thriving, they convince the owners to sell the practice to them! Then many of the docs go on to work for this MGE company! Disclaimer: I have NO proof that that is what is happening, but that did seem the case according to what was presented at the lecture.
I happened to look yesterday on a forum about all this, and a woman posted a thread because she was concerned about her daughter. The exact thing was happening to the daughter! Today somebody sent me a link to a video of an interview with a dentist and his wife whos life was ruined by this horrible scamming cult!! I was floored! The first 15 miinutes I watched was an IDENTICAL story to what happened with my nieces doc. Luckily, the Doc wised up because they kept pushing more and more courses, telling her she wasn't done and had to attend more (BTW..they also sell these "courses" in "bulk" like they do the auditing sessions.) milking her for more and more money constantly.
I am still in shock over how such a simple thing like turning on this program that evening turned into such a discovery! I am glad Doc got out of it, and wish more people would wise up! My niece also just checked the testimonials for this company and it seems more than half of them actually did become Scientologists!
Has anyone else run across a situation like this?
I will try to keep ya'll updated if any of you would be interested.
Sorry for the length, thanks for sticking with me!
I can't die! I have 43 twitter followers that depend on me! oh, and I have a daughter.
