Given that we hear Sheldon drop tidbits about the future in the voiceover, I wonder if at the end we'll find out this series is all a part of him working on his memoir or something like that.

Possible, though it would be very questionable that he would go into so very much detail about his siblings. The other problem is that a lot of things happen that Sheldon actually knows nothing about.
