George's future

Wondering when his affair will occur (or if it already is) and when he'll die. Seems like they'll have to go there.

reply

I believe they've announced they're going to revise this history.

They did? When?

I wouldn't be surprised if CBS tells Chuck Lorre and the writers to change the story if "Young Sheldon" is still a ratings beast (which it is). I can see it turning into some alternate version of what old Sheldon is telling the audience if it continues for several years.

Once the series is finally over, they may have him say something along the lines of, "Well, most of what I told you is true, but that's not exactly how it happened." Then the showrunners will have everything match what was said in "TBBT".

I don't want to see George become what we learned in the original show. He'll have to die sooner or later if they go down that road.

Go back and search the media pronouncements about the show over the past few months. You'll find it.

reply

I read somewhere that Lance Barber has stated he wouldn't do George having an affair. Can't find the source though.

reply

I don't remember the part about an affair, when did Sheldon or his mother say this?

reply

Sheldon said he caught his father with another woman. That's why he always knocks three times: "one is traditional, but "two and three are for people to get their pants on," (The Hot Tub Contamination, Season 10, Ep 5)

reply

oh, okay...thanks. I guess I'd forgotten or missed that somehow.

reply

Penny, I am going to tell you a story that I've never told anyone. All right. I was 13 years old, and on spring break from college. Not relating. Go on. I came home early because they ran out of math to teach me. Oh, now I'm with ya. Okay. My mother was at bible study. I walked in the house expecting to find it empty, and I heard a sound coming from my parents' bedroom. When I opened the door, I saw my father having relations with another woman. Oh, that's awful! I know. It's also why I never open a door without knocking three times. I mean, the first one's traditional, but two and three are for people to get their pants on.

reply

forgot about that, good one

reply

He is supposed to be 10 now?

Seems like a good plot point for season 4 or 5 to freshen up the show :)

reply

If they make it that far. Season 2 has not been nearly as good as Season 1.

reply

His mom is a cold sexless ice queen she had it coming

reply

Sheldon talks about his father on BBT like he was a drunken brute while the father in Young Sheldon comes across as a man just trying to make a living. Sheldon misinterprets things all the time and I wonder if Sheldon just misinterpreted what he saw with his father and another woman.

reply

That's fair-ish. I never thought his dad sounded like a brute, just more rough around the edges than they want to show on Young Sheldon, so they just sort of retcon him. And Sheldon does misinterpret a lot, so that could be possible. Although the other day I rewatched episode 10x12, and Sheldon mentions his mom yelling and using "un-Christianlike language" upon his father moving in with his new girlfriend.

reply

He did have an affair and he does die young.
I'm going to say around Season 5.

reply

It doesn't feel like they're necessarily building up to it, but it doesn't feel unnatural. He seems to feel unappreciated for the sacrifices he makes for his family.

reply

Lance Barber said in an interview he would not do a storyline that involved his George Sr. having an affair.

reply

I can understand being uncomfortable with explicit scenes but if he’s a professional actor he should be able to handle that sort of thing.

reply

I don't think it has anything to do with Lance being uncomfortable with doing explicit scenes as that he doesn't feel it's consistent with the father's character.

reply

i dont blame him , they dont have to turn his character into a scumbag just because of some off the cuff comment on BBT

reply

I think George Sr. is around until Sheldon is a teen-ager. Remember the first season Big Bang episode when Sheldon gets sick? He blames Penny because she came back from a family visit in Nebraska and everyone there had the flu. "She's a carrier!" And Sheldon had no "cornhusker antibodies."

Anyway, he tells her about being ill when he was in Germany when he was fifteen. His mom had been with him but she had to return to Texas to help his dad.

At any rate, I hope the dad lasts through the entire run of the series. He's a great stabilizing force in contrast to the mom who is always frantic and worried.

reply

now that I read some of the answers i did wonder about that when series started but in big bang his sister was only on once or twice, so they can change anything how will Sheldon get mature enough to go back and forth from college by himself is first hurdle for writers
