Far from a classic, but oddly watchable...
I think with a tighter script and better direction this could have been a very good movie. As it is, it's just average at best.
The problem is the movie can't figure out what it wants to be... Is it a Jaws-rip off with a mean mofo dog instead of a shark? Is it a semi-documentary, looking at the immorality of organized dog fighting? Is it a mediocre crime drama knockoff with lots of 'clever' Tarantino-inspired dialogue and stories between the characters?
Some of the directing 'tricks' were distracting... having characters appear in their own background stories. We're supposed to feel sorry for the dog at the end, but he wasn't given much of a story to earn our sympathy. And Antonio Bandaras really overacts the part of the villain, particularly at the end.
So, good for one watch but won't make any top ten lists...
