No One Will Ever Beat Gene Wilder As Willy Wonka

Not now, not EVER.. The End

I agree for now. But I'm open to the possibility someone could eventually surpass him, I just don't know any actors rn that could do it.

reply

Me too. I would love to see a good British version.

reply

Same, as long as Johnny Depp's not in the film and they select an actual British actor for the titular role.

Morgan Freeman would be good.

Actually Russel Brand did a good cameo as Wonka at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, he could be good.

I get the impression that this wasn't trying to compete with the Gene Wilder version.

This was more of an origin story of Wonka. They weren't trying to tell the same story that was in the book, or the two previous movies. And whereas Wilder's Wonka had something of a darker edge, as did Johnny Depp's, this was more family friendly.

I quite enjoyed it. But, for people that don't, it's good that previous films exist that we can still enjoy.

True but this new kid was good and SO much better than Johnny Depp!
