Why didn't Princess Jasmine use her wealth to help the poor?

At the beginning of the movie there's a scene, where Princess Jasmine takes two pieces of bread from a stall in the market without paying and gives them to two street children. When the merchant asks her to pay she says she doesn't have any money, and also doesn't want to give her bracelet as payment to him because it belonged to her mother.
Why didn't Jasmine use all her wealth to feed the poor and basically stole from a merchant to feed those children, what message is Disney trying to send here?

That's the basic rich liberal mentality, never use their own money to support a cause just steal from the middle class to do it all.

I think Jasmine was naive and didn't think to bring money since she usually gets everything by command. Also, maybe she doesn't get to handle money since she could have anything she wanted within the palace. I see it more of a naive mistake on her part (she maybe could've asked her handmaid to give her some coins).

But towards the end of the film she does become Sultan and has expressed desire to help others. I don't even think the original animated movie addressed that before.

I am currently watching the film, it would have made sense for her to buy the bread.

Probably because even though she's surrounded by luxury, she's got no "wealth" of her own. In heirarchical or patriarchal cultures all the family money belongs to the husband or father, or head of the family. Family members who are young, dependent, and/or female, may have money spent on them, but have no control over how the family money is spent, or the state treasury. Even Jasmine's jewels may legally be the property of her father or the state.

Also because she's led such a sheltered life, shut up in the palace, that she has no idea what kind of poverty exists outside her door. If that was the first time she'd snuck out of the palace and seen what kind of lives the poor lead, then hopefully she'd do better from then on.

The idea (better reflected in the cartoon) was that Jasmine has never been outside the palace walls and had no idea you had to pay for things. The message that sometimes gets lost is Jasmine starts out as a spoiled unknowing royal and becomes a more caring understanding person throughout the story. This is better expressed in the 2019 movie as there is more time to delve into it.

Actually what I remember most from fairytale books is Jasmine just being carried through town when Aladdin falls in love and uses the genie to make himself wealthy so he could have a chance. They were always portrayed as two kindhearted characters so no real issue there.

I think Disney actually made her an active character who wanted to learn about outside the palace. She also already speaks to the guys like she’s queen. (The sultan, Jafar, Aladdin scène)
With the cartoon I pretty much expect Jasmine to lead with Aladdin in the future.

The live action was messy and unconvincing. In comparison to Beauty and the Beast where I actually felt the somber reality in Belle that she wasn’t free in Aladdin you don’t feel any of that.

Compare these scenes with the cartoon:
Aladdin: The rich man confrontation in the market

Jafar: When he grabs the lamp when the cave about to close.

Jasmine: When the three guys discuss her marriage and she overhears vs when she talks to the maid about her mother in her room.

Also i HATED the rom-com style dialogue and gags. Its what stood out the most. Wacky Maid, Fresh Genie, HamYam Yam Yams🤡
