So Efrons character was stupid enough to be tricked into staying. When it was obvious that shady guy would just let him die from dehydration and then return and have all gold to himself. Because it was obvious solution about sharing gold.

They should have bury it and go together. No one would find it. After all it was hidden for centuries...

It was very lazy script. And then we have to sit for another hour, watch Efron slowly dying to have them Throwing Shocking Twist at as. The one we knew about the moment second guy left.

Exactly what I can here to say...it's a STUPID premise and they lean on the whole movie and build the whole movie around it.
Does no one with 2 brain cells ever realize there's no point to one of them staying?
If I was Zac, i would've read the script and said 'um ya - that's dumb'
But yet he still committed - must be desperate. Too bad - he's a good actor.

Well, he keeps wasting water into his head in a place where water is obviously scarce. Looks like he indeed does not have 2 brain cells.

I was thinking he wasn't a seasoned desert dweller like the older guy and human instinct kicked in before thinking about it.

His character did seem to be, in the words of Fred Sanford, a big dummy.

Biggest program for me was that if society has gone to shit, you think those with the most guns would let someone become richer than them? Someone would have killed them both at some point.
