The "Barbie"movie didn't race or gender swap...
...Barbie and Ken and it's a hit movie. Why are Disney too stupid to keep beloved classic characters race and gender unchanged?
share...Barbie and Ken and it's a hit movie. Why are Disney too stupid to keep beloved classic characters race and gender unchanged?
shareOuch!
shareYou didn't watch the Barbie movie!
There were many POC Barbie and Kens which reflects reality since Mattel has created POC Barbies and Kens for the last few decades.
Why is Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling the only ones on the movie poster Hmmmmmnnn?
shareSo they can attract ticket sales to the people who actually support movies in the most profitable way.
Once gay, lame, women movies make more money (never happen) then more gay lame women movies will be made.
You think "women movies" never make money?
shareWomen movies make lots of money. gender swapped movies rarely do. The former knows its audience and makes a movie according to it. The latter tries to force the audience and obviously fails.
shareAny idea why Battlestar Galactica in 2004 succeeded when it gender-flipped multiple main characters?
shareProbably because noone but hardcore nerds even remembered first show existed.
shareThe gender change of two main characters was well known, and well received.
The Expanse also did a few gender-flips of a sort. Why was there no outrage there?
Havent seen the expanse, cant comment on that. As for BSG, i remmeber there being quite a bit of criticism on it not respecting source material, but it came from people who noone cared about - sci-fi nerds. Because noone else knew a sci-fi show from the 80s
shareBecause you're pretty much the only fan of the Expanse. Most sci fi fans haven't seen it and don't care.
shareWhat are you on about?
First of all, it's ironic that you're disparaging cult hits, sleeper shows and media because that is essentially what sci-fi is in itself in comparison to popular culture. Sci-fi is in itself a subculture that has a cult following.
Secondly, The Expanse is actually massive in terms of sci-fi. If you've never heard of it, you're simply completely ignorant. Amazon picked it up for a reason after it got cancelled on Syfy.
There's also a credulity to your analysis too, as if only things that are mega-popular are worth investing any interest in.
"Sci-fi is in itself a subculture that has a cult following."
^Wrong, all the Hollywood blockbusters are sci fi. Only the smug, douchey stuff you like has small cult followings.
>^Wrong, all the Hollywood blockbusters are sci fi. Only the smug, douchey stuff you like has small cult followings.
If by sci-fi you mean capeshit. I guess that's one interpretation. Are you suggesting that's all anyone into sci-fi should ever want? Corpo capeshit and idk, Dune? And do you genuinely think people who queue up to watch the latest Marvel flic are somehow informed about sci-fi?
But actual space opera, political sci-fi, military sci-fi etc.
>Only the smug, douchey stuff you like has small cult followings.
What makes The Expanse "smug, douchey"?
You are honestly just letting everyone know how much a basic bitch you are with basic normie tastes. Also, rather ironically, a rather snobby basic bitch who thinks anything lesser-popular is somehow inherently bad.
Can you tell me why The Expanse was picked up by Amazon?
"But actual space opera, political sci-fi, military sci-fi etc."
Star Wars is a space opera, you ignorant newb. Ever heard of Star Trek movies, the "Alien" movie series, the Terminator movie series, the Jurassic Park movie series, "Independence Day"? Or do you not have those in the bubble you live in?
>Star Wars is a space opera, you ignorant newb. Ever heard of Star Trek movies, the "Alien" movie series, the Terminator movie series, the Jurassic Park series, "Independence Day"? Or do you not have those in the bubble you live in?
Yes, I've heard of them. Watched some of them.
What's your point? Is that all you think is worthy of watching in sci-fi?
Can you tell me what makes The Expanse smug and douchey?
My point is every mainstream blockbuster is sci fi and you were very wrong above when you said sci fi only has a small cult following. DUH! Try to follow the conversation.
shareI don't really consider people who watch the Terminator or turn out for Star Wars every few years as meaningful sci-fi fans, to be honest. People actually interested in exploring sci-fi will 100% have heard of The Expanse.
I'll try again: Can you tell me what makes The Expanse smug and douchey?
Oh thats very simple. The actors with best billings make the poster.
shareSo no barbies were race swapped and instead represented their real life counterparts?
shareAll of the women in Barbieland were every race, body type, and disability. Same with the Ken's. The movie was shit.
