So what if the Mermaid is black?

Why is that a problem? Funny how the same people that say race shouldn't matter when it comes to casting raise an issue whenever a black person is cast for a fantasy role. Maybe the actress was the best of the actors that applied for the role? You can see from the trailer that she has a beautiful singing voice.

It would be nothing if someone could make a movie about Africans with non-African actors.
But since this diversity thing is strictly one-sided, merit and talent clearly have nothing to do with it.

reply

Yes, and Jack Nicholson should play Frederick Douglass in the biopic. He's got the eyebrows, so what more does he need?

reply

Yes, cuz playing a real historical figure is the same as playing a fantasy-based character.

But clearly, logic isn’t a thing with you nazi broflakes. Keep crying chuds

reply

Hehe, doesn't take much to get an insult out of you guys, does it.

amazing how literally no one likes you on here

600 comments only and no one can stand you

Jodie Turner Smith says hi

reply

Yes, Anne Boleyn. She wasn't real was she? Lol. Jodie Turner Smith portraying her should be enough to shut the traps of hypocrites like Kowalski for good, but it won't. They'll keep pushing their bigoted propaganda like, oh, race doesn't matter except for actual historical figures (except when those real people of history are white).

Asking a question like this (and just sounding like a sane and open-minded person) in the reich wing broflake-infested cesspool that is MovieChan…. More power to you! Lol, for real.

[And bless you big bad wokey Disney - and Hollywood in general - for continuing to make the chuds have meltdowns.]

As long as my 8 year old daughter is entertained (and let’s face it, she’s a key demographic here) I’m really not bothered.

Blacks beat whites for perceived cultural appropriation.

reply

They always forget to mention that.

Cultural appropriation is taboo only when done by whites.

People get outraged if whites borrow elements from black culture (which is mainly restricted to music, in USA at least) but they get outraged if you tell them that black music (in USA of course) have borrowed elements from the European music for it's foundation.

Black mermaids are not a problem, per se. nobody, and I mean NOBODY complained about black mermaids in the PotC ...

A black Ariel is a problem in the context of the story, the original story which is culturally relevant.

reply

Mermaids aren't white, or black, or yellow, or blue, because...

And neither does Wakanda but I bet you would make a ton of arguments why they shoudl stay black

reply

Sorry, I don't do comic-book movies, but I would posit that there's really only one reason: Wakanda is a fictional country in sub-Saharan Africa!

Damn, you folks are dumb...

reply

And the kingdom of Atlanitca is off the coast of Denmark. The Princes home town is fictional version of Copenhagen.

Whats the difference.

Both are fictional kingdoms but one can be changed and the other cannot and you dare to call me dumb, Oh the irony of that statement.

but I bet you would make a ton of arguments why they shoudl stay black

You did exactly what I said you would do.

By the way Wakanda isn't real. It's fictional so can be anything the writers want. Correct. Those are the rules the right. Not real or fictional so can be changed. Just trying to keep up with the current set of rules.

reply

"Whats the difference."

Really?

How does her skin develop an abundance of melanin without sunlight?

African people do not have naturally red hair.

What Disney did was more racist than what the woketards are complaining about.

reply

Mermaids are not real.
