Is the cape just for looks?

Does the cape have any actual purpose? If not...then that means...mild-mannered Clark Kent decided on a loud red cape for appearance purposes only?!

And those boots...which are totally FAAABBBBULOUSSS!...was this a decision Clark Kent made? And where do you think Kent had the perfectly-fitting skin-tight outfit made? A tailor? Did he go to a separate store for the logo? If not, was he worried that the tailor who put his outfit together might figure out who Superman really is?! He had to go to different places for each piece of the outfit you'd have to imagine, in order to hide his identity, no?

In Melissa Benoist's Supergirl show the cape was for added stability in flight.

Nah he had the robots in the Fotress of Solitude make it for him. I remember when he was rebooted in 1986 that he kept having his cape being ripped or destroyed in some way. So no it isn't necessary, I guess he thinks it looks good.

Superman's cape, suit and boots are Kryptonian attire. It makes him feel connected to his roots, his people, his home planet.

You have it backwards. The cape, boots, and the rest are Superman's regular attire. It's the Clark Kent getup that is the costume. Superman decided to create a mild-mannered, meek persona for his alter ego to throw suspicion away from who he is behind the glasses.
