Amazing performances
The actors were amazing. You can feel the emotion. I think it was a really beautiful movie on a subject everybone can relate to.
The scene when they go for a coffee was heartbreakingly beautiful.

These actors showed just how to do down to earth acting correctly. Probably the only time I felt the acting went a little hammy was when Jim started crying after the reveal that Amanda got an abortion when they were younger. But for the most part, I can accept simple movies like these. They're fun to watch and definitely bring the nostalgia to life.
shareThis film presents one of the most realistically depictions of human emotion I've seen in a while. Pitch-perfect performances from Duplass and Paulson.

Great review! I agree. I also liked Creep and have become a fan of Mark Duplass. So, for the ending of "Blue Jay" was this closure for both of them to move on - or was this a new beginning? Is it clear and I'm missing it - or is it open for interpretation?
shareI think it's definitely open to interpretation.
I think that Jim and Amanda needed to have the conversation about the abortion, but I don't think that we need to know exactly how where they're going afterward. I think it was more a culmination the release of years of holding these emotions inside them that allows for the catharsis at the end of the film. So in a way, it's closure and a new beginning. It's just a matter of what that beginning means for each of them, and for both of them.

yeah, that makes sense.
shareIt's funny/interesting how much different people can take different performances. I felt like they were both a little too...forced, you know, forcefully trying to come across as "natural" so that I was aware of it the whole time and thus not ever really invested/believing it. I kept thinking, look the actress/actor is choosing to do this to appear natural. I think Sarah felt more forced to me than Mark, except for his weird crying breakdown... But I shouldn't be...I mean, I'm sure acting 100% natural is hard when you know exactly what the story is and thus aren't natural at all...etc. (unlike real life).
However, then you have other people on this thread saying the acting was pitch perfect and tremendously true to life! So who's to say? To each their own!
To me the prize for most "realistic" would have to be Tom Noonan's "What Happened Was..." (another one with only two characters)..damn that one gets ya in the gut
