Quit Calling It An Action Movie (some spoilers)
I don't like that everyone (especially the reviews and critics) is calling it an action movie. There is barely any action in the movie. I'd consider it more of a survival movie. And when there is action, it doesn't last long. Also everyone (including marketing) was making it sound like the moment they crash, the passengers would get taken away and then majority of the movie is spent getting back the passengers with all kinds of crazy action scenes (shootouts and one-on-one fights) along the way. Nope. The passengers don't really get taken until about an hour in and then Gerard Butler gets them back 10-15 minutes later in a very anti-climactic way. Then the rest of the movie is pretty much quickly fixing the plane and escaping. And Gerard Butler only gets into one fight and kills like two people. The person he gets in a fight with, and then the supposed main villain (with the plane during takeoff once the plane is fixed enough to get off the island). Mike Colter and the rescue team that show up do the rest. The way the marketing was, it was supposed to be Mike Banning reskinned as a pilot and goes on a rescue mission with Mike Colter's character. to get the passengers back Nope.
By the way, everything I said might sound like I didn't like the movie. I did like the movie overall. It's just that everyone is lying and stuff about the movie. Critics/reviews are calling it an action movie when it's really not, and the marketing is kind of misleading since they use the passengers being taken as the main draw, although it doesn't happen until later in the movie, and Gerard Butler gets them back pretty quickly. The passengers being taken and getting rescued is like 15-20 minutes of the movie. Majority of the movie is Gerard Butler trying to find a way to get help off the island by trying to contact someone that isn't on the island. Plus I want to say it takes about 30 minutes before they finally crash on the island. So maybe it's best to try to avoid the reviews and marketing and go into the movie blind.
