Do I have to watch the good wife?

I would say no if they stick to court cases...but you know they have to inject a little soap opera drama from the past that you won't get.

I agree with kjperes13 that you don't have to watch TGW to enjoy the spin off, especially regarding Rose Leslie's involvement. Her character was never mentioned during the 7 seasons of TGW, so everything that happens to and revolves around her doesn't depend on anything that happened before.

Also, in an interview with the New York Times creator Robert King was quoted (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/03/arts/television/the-good-fight-cbs.html):

It seems to be an appropriate kickoff for a series that has a change of course at its core. “You don’t need to have seen a single second of ‘The Good Wife’ to watch this show,” Mr. King said. “We very much mean to be starting over, and we really feel like the dilemmas for these characters all comment on what’s coming down the line in the world now.”

Unfortunately, the second part of kjperes13's post above won't be possible anymore, because the IMDb boards ar being shut down ... 
