I don't see where this is going.

I've watched both episodes so far and had the same feelings after both - Where is this going? The production values are OK, the acting is more than competent, the two cases have been interesting (if unoriginal) and the outcomes obvious. The only bits of character development in two episodes is that Bull is a pilot, and his clothes specialist played college football and is gay. As has been stated in many other posts, the big question is - How is this all paid for? Is Bull some kind of multi-millionaire philanthropist? In Ep2, Bull forces his way into the case against the wishes of the clients lawyer and then manipulates the client into firing said lawyer. He then provides his own lawyer which the client can't afford (let alone the rest of Bull's team). Who's paying is never explained. Why he's doing it is never explained. We need to know the reason things happen. Episodic shows with no character development went out in the 70's and 80's. These days characters are more important than stories, and if Bull doesn't go somewhere soon, it could end up dead in the water. Unless something happens quickly, I can't see this getting a second season, and may not make it past the Christmas break.

And we have already learned a lot more than what you listed about the characters. Bull is divorced. He former brother-in-law is the attorney who works for him. Said BIL was fired as a prosecutor around a year ago. His investigator used to be a police woman who worked narcotics at some point. His right hand woman worked at Homeland. So while the cases have been the focus (as they usually are in procedurals) we have gotten basic background details about the characters. I would imagine we will get more as time goes on. Much like we have on any number of procedurals that have come before Bull (CSI, L&O, NCIS, Criminal Minds)

As far as the second episode it was pretty clear to me that Bull was taking the case pro-bono and he did so out a desire to not see her railroaded.

Finally so far the show is doing fantastic in the ratings. People have been predicting it would tank since before it came out and thus far it has been the most watched new show of the season. Of course that could change but as I said these predictions of it will be gone sooner rather than later seem to be jumping the gun.

People seem to have forgotten how very little the original Law & Order concentrated on the characters' personal lives and it managed to survive. I think the Bull writers are doing a good job of introducing the characters a bit at a time. Too much too quickly and you turn the show into courthouse soap opera.

I actually didn't mean for my post to come over as negative as it did. I like Weatherley and I'm not running him down for leaving NCIS, that was his decision and I'm good with it (like my opinion matters). I just feel (and I know it's a very small sample size) that this may get old quickly. I hope it doesn't, and it moves up my must-watch list. At the moment I will continue to watch to see where (if anywhere) it goes.

The team characters are good actors and I can't wait to see more of them. I really like his right hand gal a lot. She is so perfectly cast for her characters role

This show is so much like Lie to Me. Boring and uninspiring.
