Why did he drop the suit?
So the dude decided not to sue based on.... what? Seems like the writers ran out of episode time.

shareBecause he was impressed on how she managed to finish the cure and he didnt want to take that away from her sister and let her suffer forever
shareAll things that were true BEFORE he brought the suit.
shareIn another thread (NB's notes), I gave the theory that he wasn't as bad of a guy as Bull's team thought he was and after she told him in the storm shelter how she'd done it and he realized he wouldn't have thought of her approach (and admitted it to her) he dropped the suit because it was the right thing to do.
From a technical point of view, I think it also proved that her version was different enough that it was not covered by his patent
It's not actually illegal to come up with a product that does the same thing as someone else, it just can't use the same method to get it done if there is a patent in place
Then why didn't Bull's team use that as a strategy? This whole episode was filled with "SERIOUSLY?!"
shareBecause they had a jury filled with stereotype hicks who had dropped out of elementary school and probably didn't know the difference between oxygen and carbon dioxide.
they did use that strategy
did you miss the apple example?
put a list of ingredients on the table and what can you make with it?
his patent was a list of ingredients, how they were put together was not the same
now try explaining that to a group of high school drop outs who have been trained to always root for the home team (the towns lawyers)
i think you missed huge portions of the episode if you don't realize this.
some of the jurors did understand by the end, especially when they were listening through the vents in the storm shelter (which is what bull arranged)
but the end result is the guy decided to just drop the law suit because he realized they were actually starting to prove that to the jury and it just wasn't worth the effort anymore to continue trying to trick them; especially when he also felt a little guilty about it
Actually, there was no more effort needed on his part. His lawyer had already done her closing argument and all that was left for the guy on Bull's side to do his closing then jury deliberation.
