Is the show cheating (SPOILERS Episode 1)

I hate it when the director/writer/producers give fake breadcrumbs to trick their viewers.
So the premise is that Kiefer 'made' that TV story at the bar about the cancer scare for the ED Drug, to induce that douchebag to panic sell. It was a self-contained story.
So why then, when the woman was waking up in the hotel room, did we hear the SAME story on the TV News?

I think we're supposed to see that Kiefer believes she's in on it, so to further the ruse, he also has that TV hacked/programmed in his room. Admittedly this is a stretch and may be giving too much credence to the writers.

the fake news report got the ball rolling. people started selling based on fake news.

Ya but the story wasn't real. He gave it to the bartender on a USB to play to scare the douchbag to sell.
So how did it end up on the real news in the hotel room?
