I don't think it's possible to make movies like this unpredictable. Stories like this make it inevitable that "so-and-so" will end up with "so-and-so."
If the ending were different, it wouldn't be a comedy. Who disagrees?

We've seen the whole "Man pines after girl. Man goes after girl. Man gets girl but then realizes girl isn't right for him after all. Man falls for the quirky side kick who has been helping him out all along"
Many years ago it would be a nice subversion of our expectations. Now we've seen it so many times it is predictable.
As soon as the female sidekick was introduced you knew what was about to go down.
