Anticipation levels high


The book is a superb read, Lynne Ramsay is a great director, Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor. My ancticipation levels are high!!!

Just read the novel. It reminds me of a grungier version of James Sallis's Drive (which was itself made into a phenomenal film), and I'm very curious to see if Lynne Ramsay can work magic here. Joaquin is perfect casting, as Joe is something of a cross between the damaged Freddie Quell of The Master (Phoenix's best work to date) and Ryan Gosling's Driver. This role will likely require a lot of internalization on Phoenix's part, projecting a lot of his torment through his eyes and his stance. I pictured him at first reading it, but by the end, funnily enough, I came to imagine a previous Lynne Ramsay collaborator in the role: Tommy Flanagan. If he were ten years younger, he'd be perfect.
