No The Orville is NOT an adequate substitute for Star Trek
Just rewatch episodes of the real thing. The Orville is just as cringe as Kurtzman Scum Drek.

shareActually I just saw clips comparing the Charly Burke/Ed Mercer scenes in season 3 of ORV to the Ortegas/Captain Pike scenes in SNW.
It reinforced what I've been saying since 2017:
The Orville understands Star Trek MUCH better than what passes for the "official" Star Trek these days!
Watch the scenes for yourself. It's ironic the "parody" feels like a much more realistic scenario of how the chain-of-command structure really works, and the "modern" Star Trek feels like a shallow wannabe attempt to mimic the style of 1960s TOS.
IT IS AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN 90% OF ANYTHING WITH TREK IN THE TITLE...YOUR USE OF THE "CRINGE" WORD ONLY CEMENTS THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A SHITTY PERSON.
shareWow, you really are retarded. By all means keep consuming shiny new thing with no critical thought.
shareLOL...CASE IN POINT.
share"IT IS AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN 90% OF ANYTHING WITH TREK IN THE TITLE"
^No dude, you're seriously retarded.
REPETITIVE AND EMBARRASSING.🙄
shareOh, grow the hell up. Everybody who disagrees with you is not "retarded". That's a lame, ridiculous term to use, and stupid to call someone a name just because they don't agree with you about a show---that's some little kids BS. I remember watching this show a few times, thinking it was just going to be a parody or knock-off of Star Trek, and finding out that even though it was funny, it had some low-key serious moments in it---which was surprising. It wasn't the laugh-a-minute sitcom it was promoted as, which was nice and different.
shareAd hominem is never a valid argument, so you lost right there. It's also unnecessary, crude, hostile and barbaric, primitive, basically the lowest AND stupidest thing you can do in any communication.
Orville isn't what it could be or is praised to be, but it's not that bad, either. Mike Stoklasa has an interesting viewpoint to it.. 'I can't watch it because I love it so much'. It's like a poor man's TNG with some cool surprises.
It doesn't have the meticulous detail or thought of TNG thought, and it treats its 'source material' somewhat superficially, which is disappointing. It's obviously a 'love letter' to Star Trek, but ultimately, it doesn't reach the deep waters, always wallowing in the shallow side of the pool.
It's still pretty good and entertaining, although its ideas were 'done better' elsewhere, most of the time, and there's a lot of 'soap opera' stuff and silly humor.
What bugs ME the most, though, is the dull-looking space. Just some stars, that's it.
It's a NEW show, so it's inexcusable. It's like the makers of this show never saw Hubble photos of any kind. There's one photo of a beautiful galaxy when a teacher is trying to teach a bunch of brats, but why can't there be at least one nebula in space from time to time?
Look at 'Hubble Deep Space' pictures, to see what it COULD have looked like, at least..
If Kowalski is defending something, you know it's gonna be BS
sharelol
bullshit -
maybe if you compare it to the new shows, but when compared to the old ones, it's utter trash.
TOS AND NEXT GENERATION....EVERYTHING ELSE IS CRAP AND THE ORVILLE WINS.
shareDS9 kills orville and leaves a bloody trail
shareNah. Gotta side w Walski on this.
TOS: A
TNG: A
Orville: A-
LD: C+
VOY: C
ENT: C-
DS9: D+
PIC: D
STD: D-
They tell me to watch one of the latest treks and say "Oh this one is good!" but I have learned my lesson. If Kurtzman is behind it, it will be a waste of time. Will not even try anything by him again.
I am grateful that Orville exists. It scratches my Trek itch.
To each his own. Most oldies consider the DS9 to be on their list of top 3 ST shows.
Just so u know, DS9 is not one of the latest treks.
For me, star trek was half dead with the arrival of voyager - crappy cast, unlikable leads - some of the stories were ok, but with the horrid cast, i think I only saw half of the episodes.
enterprise was even worse
What came later - well, you know the story
I put Orville in the same category as the rest of the latest ST crap - heck, voyager may actually top orville on my list - lol
The best way to watch Voyager is start with season 4, Seven of Nine's first episode, then only watch episodes about her character. That's about 33 really good episodes.
shareI sorta agree with this. Yes, 7of9 was sexy but her character and performance were the most engaging on the show. The show improved when she showed up. Half the cast of Voy were bland and irredeemably boring. The other half were actually very good.
shareIt appears you only care about objectifying an actress rather than the quality of Trek vs. Orville.
shareAgree with most of the ratings but I would put VOY and DS9 in the B gradings but that's just because they still retain that TNG feel or rather some of the characters from TNG. I also grew up with them along with TNG.
shareI get ya. I must have had a bee in my bonnet the day I made those rankings. Today I feel more like this:
TOS: A
TNG: A
Orville: A-
VOY: B-
DS9: C+
---soul/nosoul border ---
LD: C+
ENT: C-
PIC: D
STD: F
Voy and DS9 are comfy at least. They are still Trek even when bad.
For once, I agree.
shareI've been rewatching Voyager and loving it, if that's what you mean.
TNG is OK but has problems for me, and DS9 would be unwatchable for me if there was no Dominion.
I'll take it over Kurtzman's shitty fanfics any day of the week.
shareIt's not as good as classic Trek but it's a lot closer in spirit and design than the current crap masquerading as Trek.
The last episode, for example, was a classic (and episodic) tale of the ship being overtaken by an unknown entity. The one before it was a classic ethical dilemma episode about Isaac's life being in the hands of someone who held him responsible for her friends death.
Meanwhile Discovery and Picard are just mindless space fights and speeches about cis white males destroying the planet.
The Orville is a pale imitation but it's the best we've got.
