❤️️ What? No posts?

Has anyone seen this thing yet?
As you can well imagine, this is a very touchy subject here in Wisconsin. Only a few select theaters are showing this. Most theaters have passed on it out of respect for the family who lost their beloved daughter.
I'm not sure if I am interested in this. Even though I am a horror addict, this really doesn't look that great, having read the description.
Perhaps one day I may see it when I can watch it for free.

reply

I just saw it. What a mess of a movie. No plot. No rules. The audience has no idea how Slender Man's powers (or whatever) work. It wasn't even fun bad. Just disappointing all around.

Thanks ginny. I guess I won't be watching this when it goes directly to DVD or any of the streaming channels. It does sound like a dud.

reply

I'll probably watch it anyway. For sure when it comes to streaming. I'm a sucker for these kinds of movies.

reply

❤️️
Yeah. When you put it that way, I suppose I can't say I'll never see it.
Never say never...

reply

Then why'd you say it twice in that three word sentence? And once more in the sentence before it. Do you want my head to explode?!

reply

Thats how I thought it would be. Too bad too.

reply

Metascore 28, Imdb rating 3.2. Lots of fake 1* reviews, but no 10*. Studio can't afford fake reviewS!

Ah Hah!!!!

hahahahaha

reply

It's bad. Really. Really. Bad.

reply

❤️️
That seems to be the consensus.
Sounds like this may go straight to DVD and then get lost in the bargain bins!

Saw it yesterday afternoon (just turned 12:48 am here on the west coast!) at my local (VERY small-like 5 chain) Starlight* theatre locale here in California, and pretty much enjoyed it...my heart truly goes out to Wisconsin (though the movie took place in Massachusetts.(The whole topic of smaller movie theatre chains is a whole different subject! ;) 0

❤️️
Hmmmmm.... a different view. Could you read the mood of the rest of the people in the theater?
That is if there was room enough for more people. LOL! I'm just joking, but I know what you mean about these smaller movie chains.
Did you happen to get any sign of other's reactions to it? Were you with friends who also enjoyed it?
I'm getting mixed reviews here.
Normally, I decide for myself. I am just curious.
I feel for all of the families. The victims and the families of the girls involved in the murder here in Wisconsin. I can certainly understand the pain this subject brings to them.
Thing is, I have seen this sort of thing before. I live 20 miles from Plainfield, Wisconsin where Ed Gein lived. Back in the early 70s a movie came out that was loosely based on the case. You may have heard of it. The Deranged. That was banned in a great number of movie theaters here in central Wisconsin. That was roughly 15 or 16 years since that man's horrible secrets and crimes came out.
Apparently, the wounds take a long time to heal.

reply

Hey Margo, I had no idea about the incident you mention until I googled. I just thought Slender Man was a silly internet "thing".
It's quite scary in itself that these girls took it so seriously and makes me wonder will we see more of this kind of thing happen.

Hey Girl! Nice to see you around! What's up?
It's quite a sad situation all around, isn't it? I'm in no position to judge. As a parent, I do know how hard it is to really know what is going on with your kids all the time. As they get into those tween and teen years, it's even harder, but I do sometimes wonder just how much harder it is these days to keep an eye on what kids do on the internet. More important, what sort of things and people do they find?
It's sad that it took such a horrible tragedy like this to find out that your children have problems distinguishing the difference between reality and fantasy.
I'm so glad that our son didn't grow up with the internet. Even though there were plenty of other influences while he was growing up, I thank our lucky stars that we managed to dodge bad trouble. We aren't any different than other parents. You don't get instructions. It's a gamble. I'd like to think that we did something right. I still knock wood. I think luck played a part too.
We most likely will see other things of this sort. Even without Slender Man, you hear about bullying at school and on line. That can lead to this sort of thing as well. I'm relieved that I'm no longer raising a kid these days.

Hi again,
I gave Filmboards a whirl! I took a step into the abyss....
The good things are that it has far more stuff going on in terms of the look of the place, user friendly navigation, IMDb emoticons (which were a delight to be using once more!), a truly functional block button, easy links, signatures. I had some nice messages from the admin too.
The bad things...oh the bad stuff! Well there are some nice people there, honestly I met a few but sadly it is just swamped with undesirables and the reasonable ones get drowned out. Such a shame because it has a lot going for it. Like here it is mostly the GD board which is active.
So that was that! I'm still plodding on posting to individual boards here.

The only thing I really knew about Slender Man was my step daughter showing me supposed images of this thing years ago.

Yes I agree raising teens must be a nightmare now. I've had to do Safeguarding courses for many years because I work with children and one of the saddest things I learned was that if you're being bullied at school you're no longer safe within your own four walls.

Thank you kind sir.

Whoa! You are much braver than I!
Every now and then I lurk a bit over there. I long for the features they have. Such a shame that it's populated with trolls. Not much seems to go on with those individual boards. I confess, I have been tempted to register, but then I look at the posts and I know it's not my thing. I don't even know the language.

You are one up on me. I never even heard of Slender Man until the news reports of that case.

reply

Yes, it's sad because somebody has clearly put a lot of hard work into it and they are still developing stuff and making improvements, even taking suggestions. Compared to here where our leader is MIA and the mods are making it up as they go along.
But like here the first thing one sees is the GD board and that can be off putting, especially on Filmboards where the locals seem to know each other "intimately" and the talk is very crude.
Something in between would be good! What this site really has going for it is the trending section, that is pure gold if only they realised it.

reply

I saw it. I didn't stay for the ending though. I didn't know there was a folk legend behind slende man. I always thought it was an urban legend that became a video game then now a movie. The film is creepy and I wanted to stay for the end I had to leave due to an emergency. The film was aimed at the high school audience it seems to me so it didn't appeal much to me being much older but it was interesting enough for me to want to see the end.

A video game? Wow! I find out more and more as time goes on. I suppose that If I had been curious enough, I might have googled this character. I just assumed that this Slender Man was some sort of an urban legend that kids talked about on the internet.
I'm curious about it more and more. I love a good horror movie even if it's aimed at the teens.
I'm 62. By the way, how's the sound quality on this thing?

reply

Yea I had actually forgotten that slender man started as an urban legend. In the video game you have to avoid slender man while not looking directly at him. The more you look at him the closer he gets untill he just outright grabs you and the game fades out. As time goes on he'll automatically start getting closer to you so you have to find all the items to defeat him quickly. Yet if you accidently bump into him (for example you are always looking down staring at the floor) you still loose. And its hard to find the items if your always staring at the ground and you can't memorize where the items are as they are placed at random locations when the game starts. The sound quality of the film was as good as another movie. The film isn't that low budget. I had assumed that the "don't look at slender man" was taken from the video game. I don't know the full source of he folklore element of slender man.

reply

Actually, the girl survived, thankfully. I couldn't believe they were actually going to make the movie after that happened.

reply

I'm happy to read this. I was just thinking about how back in my days as a teen in the 70's-80's television got the blame for being a bad influence on kids along with Punk (according to my dad!). Then it was video nasties, then video games.
Doesn't it seem that now 'the internet ' is where real dangers lie, there is so much that is just out there to corrupt young minds, to misdirect the moral compass. Frightening stuff.

P.S how is thewaitress? Haven't seen her around for a while.

reply

Yeah, I guess the real dangers have always been within humans. The internet is just a relatively new medium that allows people to pollute the minds of others at a faster and more efficient rate. After all, we've created all of the things that people have tried to blame over the years.

And on that positive note, thewaitress is great! lol
We just get a little tired of politics dominating everything in life, sadly now including the film industry. It becomes difficult to watch things that have obvious agendas under the plot, let alone discuss them with others. So, every now and then, we live sort of "hermit style" for a bit to get away and clear our minds, but we both love film and television too much to never hear from us again. I bet she'll be back around at some point, especially when some of her favorite shows come back on.

reply

I hear you loud and clear.
I find it incredibly difficult to stop myself getting involved in what is always, always a pointless battle! Let's be honest nobody ever walked away from one of these conversations thinking "You know what Trump/Obama/Clinton/Whoever isn't so bad, thanks for talking me round"
I have that voice in my head going "step away from the keyboard"! Sometimes it even works.
I agree it does seem as if politics is polluting all things tv and film at the moment.
Hoping to keep seeing you guys around, take care.

reply

If its so personal. There's plenty of other scary films to horrify yourself with.

reply

❤️️
Personal? I didn't say it was personal to me. I think you misunderstood.
I posted because I was wondering why there were no posts. I also mentioned that many theaters banned this one here in Wisconsin.
Naturally, I think the whole situation with these girls and their families was very sad.
My main interest in posting though, is what people thought of this film. I will most likely see it when it hits Netflix if I see it at all.
Yes. I know that there are other scary films. I don't even need those in order to "horrify" myself these days. All I have to do is turn on the evening news....

reply

You said touchy subject up in Wi.

The evening news can be quite scary. Especially where I'm at. I rather not even know it exists.
I much rather watch scary films. Many which are quite interesting and pretty real in a real sense. As it many deal with a historic past or supernatural existence. Even dreams could be more real then human existance.

reply

❤️️
It is a touchy subject. It just didn't touch me directly. I only heard about the sad story on the news. Sometimes truth really is more frightening than fiction.
We can enjoy a good Horror movie about a ghost or some monster, but I am more frighted by the things that can really happen. Those are the scary stories!

reply

Horror does happen. Many are influenced or influence.

Well, on that happy note, I'm off to bed. I have stayed up far too late. It's past midnight. I really should be in bed.
